Deep Tropics

EDM MUSIC FESTIVAL

Deep Tropics stands out as a unique sustainable and holistic EDM festival, fostering lasting connections with our community and planet. We are not just a music festival, but a community experience that reconnects you with your community, home, and yourself. At Deep Tropics, we are redefining the standards of music festivals, setting new benchmarks for sustainability, holistic living, and the EDM rave experience. We brought together Nashville's brightest thought leaders, spiritual luminaries, artists, entrepreneurs, and health and wellness experts to create a space where we collectively find solutions to our shared problems. We believe caring for the Earth is the same as caring for ourselves.

Mission Statement: We are all interconnected; us and the Earth are the same. Our non-profit, Deep Culture, creates events that promote this interconnectedness through awakening, healing, collaboration, and community building. We have created a range of sustainability solutions that have made our festival "the greenest festival in North America."

research Phase

Overview: The Burning Man Festival is an annual event that takes place in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, USA. It started in 1986 on Baker Beach in San Francisco before moving to its current location in 1990. The event typically occurs over the course of nine days, ending on Labor Day in September.

Key Features:

  1. Radical Self-Expression: Participants are encouraged to express themselves freely through art, fashion, music, and performance. The festival features large-scale art installations, theme camps, and various performances.

  2. Principles: Burning Man operates on ten guiding principles, including radical inclusion, self-reliance, gifting (no money is exchanged within the festival), decommodificatios (no commercial sponsorships), and communal effort.

  3. Temporary City: The event creates a temporary city called Black Rock City, which is designed in a semi-circular layout. The city exists only for the duration of the festival and is dismantled afterward.

  4. The Burn: The highlight of the festival is the burning of a large wooden effigy, known as "The Man," on the penultimate night. This symbolic act is meant to represent renewal and letting go of the past.

  5. Leave No Trace: Participants are expected to leave the desert as they found it, meaning they must take all their trash and belongings with them when they leave.

  6. Community and Participation: Burning Man is a highly participatory event, with the community creating much of the content, activities, and infrastructure. Everyone is encouraged to get involved, whether by volunteering, creating art, or sharing resources.
